Searching for a list of Mount Elgon gates? Mount Elgon National Park is located on the border of Uganda and Kenya. Below are the gates that tourists can use to access the park from either country.
- Sipi Gate: Sipi Gate is found in northern Mbale in Kapchorwa district. It gives access to the central part of the park and to Sipi Falls, which flow down from Mount Elgon.
- Budadiri Gate: Budadiri Gate is the main gate located in Mbale district, Uganda. It is found in the Sasa Valley and leads to the Sasa Trail. This gate is also a good starting point for birdwatching and enjoying views of the landscape.
- Kapkwai Gate: Kapkwai Gate is convenient for visitors coming from Kapchorwa and Mbale town. It is popular for nature walks and gives access to waterfalls, montane forests, and wildlife.
- Chorlim Gate: Chorlim Gate is on the Kenyan side of the park. It leads to the western areas of Mount Elgon, including Suam Gorge and Tutum Cave.
- Wanale Gate: Wanale Gate is located on the Wanale Ridge. It is a starting point for hikes on the lower slopes of Mount Elgon. Visitors can enjoy the nearby hills, watch birds, and meet local communities.
- Lwakhakha Gate: Lwakhakha Gate is situated on the western side of Mount Elgon. It allows access to walking safaris in the forests and opportunities to see wildlife.
- Piswa Gate: Piswa Gate is in the Kapkwata area in northern Mount Elgon, accessible via Kapchorwa. It leads to montane forests and offers chances to see wildlife, including elephants and buffaloes.
The park gates open at 7:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM. Visitors are advised to keep time when planning their activities. The best months to visit are June to August and December to March, which are the dry seasons.
